Kathmandu — The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with communities across Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides that have affected the country.
In a statement issued by PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid, the association conveyed its deepest sympathy and solidarity with its members, partners, and friends across Nepal. The statement expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and the impact of the disaster on families, communities, and livelihoods, with particular thoughts extended to those who have lost loved ones, those who remain missing or displaced, and everyone working tirelessly on response and recovery efforts.
The statement noted that this disaster has affected not only the people and communities of Nepal, but also hundreds of international visitors who were in the country at the time. PATA said it deeply appreciates the leadership and efforts of the Government of Nepal and the people of Nepal in responding to the crisis and leading the recovery, recognizing the immense challenges they face working against time and the forces of nature to protect lives, assist those affected, and begin rebuilding.
Calling Nepal a valued part of the PATA family, Hamid said the association wants its members and colleagues there to know they are in PATA's thoughts during this difficult time. The statement also acknowledged the significant challenges the tourism industry and local communities face as they begin the recovery process.
PATA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nepal and its tourism community. As recovery progresses and circumstances allow, the association said it will continue working closely with the PATA Nepal Chapter, its members, and tourism partners to identify ways its network, knowledge, and resources can contribute to the sector's recovery and resilience.
The statement also expressed hope that, when the time is right, the international tourism community can come together to support Nepal's recovery and help restore confidence in the destination with PATA committing to stand alongside its members and partners throughout this effort.
